Why We're Called Nine2
People ask about the name more than anything else. It’s fair — Nine2 doesn’t tell you much on its own.
It comes from Luke 9:2. And he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal the sick.
One line. Jesus takes the twelve, gives them what they’ll need, and sends them out. Not gathers them in. Not sits them down. Sends them.
That’s the whole idea behind this brand, and it took me a long time to understand why it mattered to me specifically.
Sent, not settled
There’s a version of Christian life that happens entirely indoors. Sunday morning, small group on Wednesday, a bumper sticker. All good things. But if you read Luke 9 and stop at the part where they’re commissioned, you miss what actually happens next — they leave. They go out into towns and roads and other people’s houses. The faith moves.
I think about that every time somebody assumes a Christian brand has to be a church brand. This isn’t apparel for the pew. It’s for the truck at 5 a.m., the trailhead, the boat ramp, the porch where you drink coffee with somebody you love. Wherever you actually spend your life.
Faith was never meant to stay indoors. That’s not a slogan we made up for a t-shirt. It’s just what the verse says.
And to heal the sick
The second half of the verse gets skipped a lot, and it’s the part I can’t get away from.
They weren’t sent out to be impressive. They were sent to help. To show up where something was broken and do something about it.
I spent five years in the Marine Corps. Most of what I remember isn’t the ceremony or the standing at attention — it’s the ordinary business of taking care of the guy next to you, because nobody else was going to. That’s not a religious idea. But it rhymes with one.
Being sent out isn’t about having a platform. It’s about being useful where you land.
Why it’s on the clothes
Every piece we make carries the verse somewhere. Sometimes plainly, sometimes just in the fact that it exists at all.
That isn’t decoration and it isn’t a marketing angle. It’s a reminder for the person wearing it. You get dressed, you head out, and the thing you’re wearing says you were sent. Maybe that means something on a hard morning. Maybe it doesn’t. But it’s there.
We make it well because that matters too. Garment-dyed cotton that softens instead of wearing out. Embroidery that holds. Nothing chasing a trend. If you’re going to carry something into your actual life, it ought to survive the trip.
Nine2
So that’s the name. Chapter nine, verse two. A sending verse for a brand made for people who go outside.
Faith. Purpose. Legacy.
Wherever you’re sent, wear it well.
